Celebrate the memories of those special people who
remain always in our hearts.
Dedicated to the memory
of Ricky McGregor
2005, Ricky was the starting quarterback for the Manchester East
Cobras. He had a phenomenal season as he led his team to the 2005
Jr. Midget State Championships. That season with all his weapons,
Ricky passed for almost 1000 yards. Quite a feat for a young man
of 12 years. Ricky was never full of himself and after throwing
a touchdown instead of celebrating with his teammates he would run
to the side lines to do the next right thing and talk with his coach.
In January, 2006 a new Pop Warner Football Team began its way from
a dream into a reality, the Manchester Eagles had been formed. As
Ricky was a very active young man he always wanted to see the Eagles
off the ground. Ricky was very involved in the creation of the Manchester
Eagles, including coming up with the Eagles logo. Ricky was to be
the starting quarterback for the Manchester Eagles Midget Team in
the inaugural 2006 season. Ricky was very excited. He was always
training and lifting weights to ensure he was ready.
On May 26th 2006, Ricky had a normal day at school
then at the end of the day the children were allowed out to the
playground. Ricky was running out to the playground with his friends
when he collapsed and passed away.
Ricky never got to take the field as a Manchester
Eagle but he will always be with us as our hearts and lives were
enriched by his memory and presence.
On Sunday, October 1st 2006 the Manchester Eagles
had its first home game of their first season. It was here that
the Eagle’s Midget Team, friends, family, and spectators paid
tribute to Ricky’s memory. It was an emotional day but a
GREAT feat as it was now a reality that Ricky’s dream of
the Manchester Eagles was and will always be a reality.
